About The Owner
A French love affair since 1972
​

Martha started taking French in school at the age of 10.  As she approached graduation from high school, a friend encouraged her to go on a summer exchange program to France where she would live with a host family.  Even after taking so much French, she got off the train in the French countryside and a petite lady approached her with a photograph in hand calling, “Marta! Marta!”  Martha recalls understanding very little in the car on the way back to the house.  She discovered later that the dialect from this particular region of France is even difficult for the natives to understand.  But after a lot of love and patience they became fast friends – a young girl who had recently lost her mother and a mother who never had a daughter.  Janine taught Martha the art of French cooking with fresh ingredients straight out of the garden and meat from the farm.

After a summer in France, Martha returned to the US with a love boiling inside her for all things French.  She ended up majoring in French at UNC-Greensboro and recently completed her Masters in French Language Teaching in Angers, France.  She taught for almost 20 years, and now is excited to fulfill a life-long dream of being a French Café owner.  Her husband, family, and many friends have been a huge support to her.  She also has seen the hand of God working with her to mold this dream.
